Summer.

I think it is here. This is a very good thing for me.

With soaring temperatures many peoples minds will actually be filling with dread after last years horrific forest fires. Best be prepared!

This site impressed me a great deal: http://www.portugalwildfires.com/

To see someone not just take the time, but also present all the information in such a professional way (all for free) is one of the best things about the internet.

The site looks fabulous and functions perfectly on my laptop and phone. When I was walking through Portugal last Summer I didn't even dare light a cigarette outside of a city, or town. The threat is something all should be aware of even if we don't actually need to be afraid. Precautions are the obvious answer.

Cheers John, your blog's inspired me to tackle 'el camino'.
I dont think I'll manage starting from cold and ive no skills I could sell along the way so Im putting the groundwork in now.
Couch to 5k jogging plan and hiking/camping as often as poss.
Hoping to give it a go in about a year.
If i can make it to Santiago I might take a right turn and head down to Lisbon for a beer :)

Camino is a great experience for many reasons. None of those reasons need to be religious. I set-off as a heavy smoking, heavy drinking middle aged unhealthy (I continued that way actually). Only took about a week to get into a steady 25KM hike a day with no problem whatsoever.

Met great people. Cleared many cobwebs. Gained in fitness. Saw beautiful sights... the list goes on, but above all, walking camino(s) taught me how to live again. You appreciate life on a totally different level.

If you do it, you will love it.
